Nguyen Paces Westminster Past Ocean View

Quan Nguyen rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown to help Westminster to a 24-14 victory over Ocean View in a Sunset League game Friday at Westminster.

Westminster (2-8, 2-5 in league) missed its first three conversion tries after touchdowns and led, 18-14, early in the fourth quarter. Ocean View had narrowed the led to four points on a 41-yard screen pass from Freddy Brown to Ted Norman with 11:49 left in the fourth quarter.

But Westminster came back on the next play from scrimmage when quarterback Jerry Allison threw a 61-pass for a touchdown to Charlie Camerena with 11:12 left. Allison was six for 12 with 124 yards, no interceptions and two touchdowns.

Westminster failed on the two-point try but kept Ocean View from scoring the rest of the way. Ocean View (0-10, 0-7) has a 29-game winless streak over the last three seasons.

Westminster scored first on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Allison to Jimmy Adkisson with 16 seconds left in the first half. The Lions took a 12-0 lead on a one-yard run by Nguyen midway in the third quarter.

Ocean View came right back on the next play when David Shaw took the kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. It was his second 95-yard return for a touchdown in as many weeks.
