Let’s call it divine inspiration. Designers’ fall and winter collections contain variations on sacred vestments of all faiths--Catholic, Protestant, Judaic, Islamic, almost every theme imaginable short of the Flying Nun. Whether the trend is evidence of increasing spiritual awareness is debatable. But the image of transcendent serenity is an appealing antidote to modern life.
