MISSION VIEJO : City Establishes Fees for Filming, Shoots

Share

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But in this city, the value of a photo shoot is more like a thousand bucks.

The city has established a fee schedule for commercial filming or photography of public places such as the U.S. soccer team World Cup training center and the Nadadores swimming stadium.

In the future, any company making a movie or conducting a still camera shoot must apply for a permit from City Hall at a cost of $500. Commercial filming will cost an additional $1,500 at the city’s sports complexes and $1,000 in other public parks and recreation centers.

Photography shoots will run $1,000 for major sports complexes, such as the soccer training center and swim stadium, and $500 to take pictures of city parks and recreation centers.

The council also established a list of guidelines for filming and photography, including:

* The limiting of sessions to eight hours between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. in residential areas. Extensions can be granted with permission of a majority of residents.

* A requirement that the City of Mission Viejo be listed on all movie credits.

* Establishment of a $1-million insurance policy.

* A ban on use of bullhorns by the applicant.
