Rohrabacher’s Record
* A Times writer referred to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) as a “surfing libertarian.” Rohrabacher may hang ten now and again, but Holy Cowabunga--he is not a libertarian--he is a conservative Republican!
His positions on civil liberties are usually far (right!) from libertarianism. Dana, with whom I became a friend 25 years ago, was indeed an activist libertarian until 1980. Dana then developed a hunger for power. He sacrificed his libertarian principles on an altar of political expediency by first being a wordsmith for Ronald Reagan and next running for Congress as a Republican.
