COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : USC : Coliseum Sold Out for Saturday’s Game

Share

Saturday’s USC-UCLA game at the Coliseum is a 94,159-seat sellout, USC announced at mid-afternoon Tuesday.

Although the renovated Coliseum usually seats about 68,000 for USC games, the retractable fabric that covers seats in the southeast and northeast corners will be removed to expand the capacity for this game.

Quipped Coach John Robinson: “I thought we were going to make UCLA people sit under those tarps.”

Wide receiver Johnnie Morton sat out Tuesday’s practice because of illness, but Robinson said he expected Morton at today’s workout.

Safety Mike Salmon, used sparingly in the 22-17 victory at Washington last Saturday because of an Achilles injury, worked out Tuesday and appeared to run without pain.

Salmon and Jason Sehorn, senior USC defensive backs, say they respect UCLA’s leading receiver, J.J. Stokes, but both expressed confidence that they can limit his effectiveness. “You can’t take anything away from a guy who’s scored 16 touchdowns, but we’ve done well with other good receivers,” said Sehorn, a cornerback.

“Bobby Engram from Penn State was a good receiver and we contained him. And remember, we defend against Johnnie Morton in practice, and nobody runs routes like Johnnie Morton.”
