Sharpless Ends ARB Duties Amid Thanks, Threats: California Air Resources Board Chairwoman Jananne Sharpless, who was removed from office Wednesday by Gov. Pete Wilson, presided over her last ARB meeting. State police provided the hearing room with tight security because the ARB had received numerous, unprecedented death threats on a hot line set up for truckers complaining of high diesel fuel prices. When Sharpless officially stepped down from her post at the meeting’s end of the meeting, ARB staff members in the back of the hearing room unfurled a 10-foot-long strip of paper that read, “We love you Jan.”
