Finding luxury items at deeply discounted prices is the dream of every good shopper. A bargain Rolls Royce or a deal on dia monds . . . we would all like to find these, right? The jubilation at uncovering a deal on luxury goods is universal.

Cashmere apparel is a luxury that most of us cannot afford regularly, but when the opportunity to purchase it at a big savings presents itself, the bargain hunters come out in force.

Those shoppers reappear every year about this time when Bill Kasper and his entourage gather a large part of the William Kasper inventory and send it to Los Angeles from their warehouse in Topeka, Kan. For one weekend they’re offering it to the public at prices near wholesale.

Kasper’s cashmere goods are found in some of the finest specialty and department stores in the country, either under the William Kasper label or the stores’ private labels. The sale inventory is made up of one-of-a-kind designer samples, as well as regular stock from the warehouse.

Whereas most of the merchandise consists of sweaters for men and women, you will also find some specialty items such as shirts, capes or scarves. Shawls that regularly retail for $300 to $400 will be marked $100 to $200.

For women, there are sweaters with crew necks, mock turtles and turtlenecks, plus twin sets (cardigans with matching short-sleeve pullovers). A cashmere sweat shirt-styled sweater for women runs a whopping $250 at area boutiques, but will be tagged $99 for the sale. Cashmere T-shirts usually command $180, but these will be marked $69. Intarsias retail for about $400, but bargain shoppers will snap them up for $129.

Men’s standard V-neck, crew neck or polo-style sweaters usually sell from $175 to $350 but will sell for $99 to $150. All of this merchandise is top quality in styling and workmanship. The cashmere is all two-ply and up.

Savvy shoppers are usually waiting at the door before the opening time of 10 a.m., and the place is generally packed both days until 6 p.m.
