Six-year-olds who routinely turn into dinosaurs. Frustrated fathers who heave televisions out of windows. The theft of the moon.

These are among the fanciful ingredients in Bill Harley’s singing and storytelling mix, scheduled to be served up today at the Norris Theatre in Rolling Hills Estates.

Part of the Norris’ Fall Children’s Series, Harley’s two performances will feature sing-alongs, stories and humorous give-and-take with the audience. The shows are recommended for children 5 and older.

An accomplished storyteller, Harley has also succeeded as a recording artist, turning out albums including “50 Ways to Fool Your Mother,” “You’re in Trouble,” “Monsters in the Bathroom” and “Grown-ups Are Strange.”

But whether he’s singing a tune or telling a tale, Harley says his goal is to get people to understand each other better.

“I perform to remind everyone, including myself, that we all have a great deal in common,” he says. “And the things we don’t have in common, the things that make each one of us unique, are things worth celebrating.”

That, in part, means bridging the generation gap.

“I like family audiences,” Harley says. “And I’ve found that material that really works for kids also works for adults, for the obvious reasons: We’re all people, and adults remember growing up. And if they don’t, I remind them.”

Today’s show times are 1 and 4 p.m. The Norris Theatre is at 27570 Crossfield Drive at Indian Peak Road, Rolling Hills Estates. Tickets are $12.
