He starts out as a Republican. He moves on to co-direct Ross Perot’s presidential campaign in 1992. He resigns from that campaign.

He directs Republican Christine Todd Whitman’s campaign in New Jersey. He “reveals” that her campaign bribed black ministers (Nov. 10).

Who is Ed Rollins?

Sometimes it is important to see the grand totality of an issue to view its importance. I could go back further, however; the Watergate thing brought down President Nixon and the Republicans declared it just a two-bit burglary. It wasn’t; Atty. Gen. John Mitchell had political meetings in his office where felonies were discussed and planned. Numbers of top appointees were indicted and convicted. President Nixon was then pardoned by President Ford.

When President Reagan left office after eight years, more than 100 of his appointees had been indicted or convicted. President Bush set much higher standards at the beginning but he pardoned top men when he departed. A Republican senator is elected in Texas, then indicted and the Republican response is to try to get Democrats off of grand juries.

Now we have a New Jersey governor elected with some big questions about campaign expenditures. Please send your reporters out and see if they can find a Republican response that will be novel and doesn’t have the word stonewall or pardon in it.
