Writing Shop Keeps Busy Doing Resumes

Most people who have their resumes prepared by the Writing Shop, a Ventura concern, are employed and not necessarily in danger of being laid off, according to co-owner Jonathan Paul.

“A lot of our customers want to be ready, just in case something happens,” he said. “Some of them like the idea of having a resume handy, just in case they’re approached by a headhunter.”

Paul says he and his partner, John Schettler, have prepared resumes for 7,000 clients since starting their business in 1986. The charge is $100 to $150, depending on the format and paper quality.

Right now, most of the firm’s customers are in electronics and other defense-related industries, Paul said. “It goes in waves. Before defense, it was banking and finance. Before that, it was construction.”
