A dozen homes were evacuated after a postal carrier found two pipes packed with explosives in a mailbox Monday afternoon in San Dimas, sheriff’s deputies said.

The pipe bombs were discovered about 12:15 p.m. at Belleview and Gladstone streets.

A sheriff’s explosives team removed the explosives and detonated them. Residents were allowed to return to their homes about two hours after the discovery.

About half a mile away, a fake pipe bomb was found in a residential mailbox on San Dimas Avenue.
