Nation IN BRIEF : OREGON : Adoptive Parents Indicted in 3 Deaths
A couple who have been praised for adopting dozens of unwanted youngsters from around the world were indicted for manslaughter in the deaths of three children and for alleged mistreatment of other children. In addition to the manslaughter charges, the 27-count indictment accuses Dennis and Diane Nason of Sisters, Ore., with 15 counts of criminal mistreatment, seven counts of forging guardianship papers and racketeering. The couple adopted 76 children over the last 14 years, most of them mentally or physically disabled, and once were profiled on the “60 Minutes” television program. The couple also had six biological children.
