Clinton and NAFTA

Share

It continues to amaze me how often reporters seem to want to make President Clinton look bad--no matter what he does. Case in point is “Clinton Goes Out on a Limb but Luck Still Holds” (news analysis, by Paul Richter, Nov. 18).

In the body of the article your reporter states over and over how much President Clinton had to lose by backing the North American Free Trade Agreement--phrases like “stuck his neck out” and “high risk strategy” fill the article. Your reporter comments “he could have ducked the trade issue”--perhaps gone golfing or fishing.

Instead, and I quote, “Clinton fought for the trade agreement because he sincerely believes that free trade offers the nation one of the best routes to prosperity.” I suggest you get out your dictionary and look up the word luck !

* It’s not Clinton’s luck, stupid. It’s his pluck.
