Authorities Display Confiscated Jeans

Police Wednesday displayed 1,000 pairs of new Levi’s seized last week, saying they believe the jeans may have been stolen.

Newport Beach patrol officers confiscated the clothing late Saturday, after stopping a van at the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and West Coast Highway, authorities said.

The driver, Martin Louis Bates, 36, of Norwalk, was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen goods and is being held on $10,000 bond, police said. Bates is also wanted in connection with another case of possession of stolen property, according to Lt. Paul Henisey.

Police believe that the jeans may have come from a warehouse or storage shed.
