COUNTYWIDE : FHP Honors 2 for Work in Schools

Two Orange County health care administrators have been honored for their volunteer work with local public schools.

Both men received FHP’s Partnerships for Achieving and Learning in Schools Apple Awards at a recent leadership dinner in Cerritos for FHP’s Long Beach-Orange County region.

Paul Van Wagenen, FHP administrator for the Anaheim medical campus, received an Apple Award of Excellence for his work with Dr. Jonas E. Salk Elementary School and Savanna High School in Anaheim.

He has helped train teachers in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, spoke at a Career Day, sponsored poster contests, donated emergency kits, conducted interview-skills workshops with students, provided free flu vaccinations for school staff and participated in the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce education committee.

Michael Coleman, FHP administrator in Garden Grove, received the Apple Award of Merit for his work with Ethel M. Evans Elementary School in Garden Grove.

Coleman is a member of Evans’ Parent-Teacher Assn. and has helped with the school’s principal-for-a-day program, CPR training, open house and field trips to FHP facilities.

He has also donated earthquake preparedness kits.
