You’re Gonna Get It

‘Tis the season for greatest hits packages, which make great gifts. Tom Petty is cashing in right away with his “Greatest Hits,” which debuted at No. 5 on The Times’ Southern California pop album chart. Many of these collections are hot sellers through the holiday gift-buying season but see sales slow to a trickle after that. Bryan Adams’ greatest hits collection “So Far So Good” (No. 6) is a hot seller too, along with Zapp & Roger’s “All the Greatest Hits” (No. 9). Among the albums of new material, Michael Bolton’s “The One Thing,” did best--entering at No. 4. Like his others, this one promises to be a Top 10 fixture at least for the next two months. The clout of Pearl Jam’s “Vs.” is really evident on the hard-rock chart, where it’s the clear champion and should rule into early next year at least.
