Youth / OPINION

Art is often a forum for social expression. Such was the case for Rebecca Villanueva, who drew this cartoon strip as part of a project on anger for LA Youth, a newspaper published by the nonprofit Youth News Service, L.A. Bureau.

“Stereotypes make me angry because usually they don’t make any sense, “ said the 14-year-old, who is freshman at Ramona Convent High School in Alhambra. “I wanted to say something not only about my anger but show a solution. I’m just hoping that things will be resolved and life won’t be so hard.”

The Huntington Park resident says she is “just a doodler, but I want to study art more.” She is encouraged by the response to the strip. “I’m pretty happy with it and the other kids on the paper liked it.”
