Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Lancaster to Help Residents Get Rid of Leaves Free of Charge

Share

Even the gusty high desert winds are not enough to blow away the countless leaves that are falling from trees. So the city of Lancaster is offering a way for residents to get rid of the yard waste at no cost.

The city’s two trash haulers--Waste Management and A. V. Rubbish--will pick up bagged yard debris for any customers that contact them. During the special autumn leaves pickup program, the companies will take more bags of waste than they usually do.

And for those who don’t want to bag their leaves or have them take up space in a landfill, the city is sending a “leaf bailer,” a machine that vacuums leaves from the gutter and then shreds them for use as mulch, to drive through Lancaster streets.

The bailer will vacuum leaves on regular street-sweeping days. The mulch will be available free to residents from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at the city’s maintenance yard, 655 West Avenue H. Residents should bring their own containers.
