Long Beach : Parents Praise Schools but Worry About Size of Classes

Share

Parents give high marks to teachers and schools in the Long Beach Unified School District, according to a survey released last week.

But they are also concerned about class size and the quality of instruction.

The telephone survey conducted by the district in August involved 6,072 parents, who were asked to rate their child’s school, teachers, administrators and academic programs. About 40% gave their child’s school an A, and 45% gave it a B. Only 1% of the parents gave the schools a flunking grade.

But about 45% of the parents said they are concerned about the quality of teaching at their child’s school. Class size was listed as a major concern by 48% of the parents.

It is the second year the Long Beach school system has conducted a survey of parents, a district spokesman said.
