BUENA PARK : Realtor Group Gives $12,000 to DARE
The Buena Park-Cypress-La Palma Assn. of Realtors has joined in the fight against drugs and raised $12,000 for anti-drug programs taught by police officers in elementary schools in the three cities.
“We feel that drugs are a big problem in the community, and this is a way we can prevent children from getting into drugs,” said Patrick V. Ochoa, president of the 450-member association.
Ochoa, an independent broker from Cypress, said the money was split among the three cities, each receiving $4,000.
The association, along with its affiliates, such as lenders and title companies, helped to raise the money by holding a golf tournament, a night at an Angels game, a trade show and Las Vegas night, Ochoa said.
Ochoa said this was the second consecutive year that the association has raised $12,000 to give to the DARE--Drug Abuse Resistance Education--programs.
Buena Park Police Chief Richard M. Tefank said the donation to the department will be well spent.
Tefank said the money is used to supplement the program to buy all the extras such as DARE T-shirts, pins and trading cards for the students.
