CAMARILLO : City OKs Crossing Guard for School

Share

Students at Camarillo Heights School who cross the intersection of Daphne Street and Mission Drive will have a crossing guard through the end of the 1993-94 school year.

Although the intersection is outside city limits, the Camarillo City Council has agreed to fund the crossing guard through the school year because most of the students at the elementary school live in the city.

“This is a safety issue,” Councilman David M. Smith said. “It’s clear-cut, and I have no reservations about paying for it.”

The Pleasant Valley School District asked the city to pay for the crossing guard after the county discontinued funding earlier this year because of budget cuts.

City staff members conducted a study that concluded that vehicle traffic continued to warrant the crossing guard and recommended council approval of the $3,500 cost.

The annual cost of the crossing guard would be about $6,000 a year after this school year, but the council took no action on future funding.
