But Meanwhile, Back on the Football Field . . .

Who else but USC would try to weasel out of an obligation to play a bowl game in a location where the Trojans have endured a string of losing performances?

By the way, is there any truth to the rumor that Mike Garrett is trying to cut a deal to eliminate Notre Dame and UCLA from its schedule?

The arrogance of the USC alumni never fails to amuse me. I will make a point of watching the Freedom Bowl just to see if the Trojans begin pouting and suddenly pick up their ball and go home if they happen to be losing late in the fourth quarter.

As a Southern California native who attends Fresno State, I have a message for USC fans:

--Face it, your team is simply not good anymore. They are not fighting for the national championship and are fortunate to be invited to the Freedom Bowl the last two years. Take what you can get and stop whining about it.

--There is no need to complain about a rematch with Fresno State because it’s not going to happen. The ‘Dogs had too good a season to have to play in the Freedom Bowl again and are heading to Honolulu and the Aloha Bowl. We’ve moved on. Why haven’t you?

--Oh, by the way, I guess it wasn’t the coaching last year, was it?
