New Year’s Eve on the Edge

Share

How about a New Year’s Eve party that’s right on the edge.

El Tovar, which is perched on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, will ring in 1994 with a dinner-dance for about 200 people. “New Year’s Eve at the canyon is a longtime tradition,” says spokeswoman Jane Gillespie. “Most guests dress in tuxedos and evening wear, although some show up in ‘high hiking’ attire.”

Cost of the party, which includes dinner, champagne and dancing, is $85 per person. Participants must be guests at El Tovar, where rates range from $89 to $157 per room, per night, based on double occupancy.

The bad news is that the party sells out every year. The good news is that cancellations occur and Gillespie urges people to call. If nothing else, they can make plans to greet 1995 at El Tovar--reservations are accepted a year in advance.
