Chairman Resigns From Competitor’s Board: The chairman of McGaw Inc., James M. Sweeney, said Wednesday that he has resigned from the board of Medical Care America to soothe potential McGaw customers who compete with Medical Care.

Sweeney said that several major home therapy providers have said they would be more inclined to do business with McGaw if he did not serve as a director of their competitor.

Medical Care America is a Memphis-based firm that runs the nation’s largest chain of outpatient surgery centers. It is a customer of Irvine-based McGaw’s intravenous therapy products and services.

“I have reluctantly concluded that it is necessary to resign from the MCA board to avoid any perception of a conflict of interest,” Sweeney said.
