PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Zampese: Flipper Not Forgotten

Share

Wide receiver Flipper Anderson has complained about being a forgotten man, but offensive coordinator Ernie Zampese said it hasn’t been by design.

“I certainly don’t feel like we’ve done that,” Zampese said. “The plays we called with him specifically in mind, the coverages take that away. That has happened quite a few times.

“And when we were throwing the ball well in a couple games early in the season, we were spreading it around pretty well.”

Anderson, the Rams’ big-play threat, hasn’t scored of caught more than three passes in a game since Oct. 14 against Atlanta. He has 26 receptions.

Coach Chuck Knox wants the Rams to do a better job of containing New Orleans rookie Tyrone Hughes, one of the top return men in the league. Hughes, second in the NFC in punt returns with an 11.6-yard average, and third in kick returns at 25.8, returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown against the Rams in a 37-6 Saint victory Oct. 3.

“With Hughes, they’ve got the best punt-kick combination return guy,” Knox said.

Safety Pat Terrell, who missed the last two games because of a pinched nerve in his neck, practiced and should be available for Sunday’s game. . . . Right guard Leo Goeas sat out practice because of a bruised hip but should be available Sunday. . . . Linebacker Shane Conlan did not practice because of a knee injury and is listed as doubtful for the game.
