Praise for Pro-174 School Trustee

* I was disturbed to learn that the Saddleback Valley Teachers Union was seeking the ouster of school board member Frank Ury because he spoke out in favor of Proposition 174, the school choice initiative. Perhaps these “politically correct” public school teachers who are supposed to teach children about democracy should reread the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which even guarantees school board members the right to their own opinions.

Besides, Mr. Ury was right to support school choice, particularly since hundreds of thousands of children in California public schools leave those schools each year reading and writing far below grade level. In many instances, the public schools are mediocre at best and criminally negligent at worst. The teacher unions tell us money is the problem. That is baloney. The real problem is a goofy statewide curriculum and a left-wing agenda that often causes poor learning results.

Thank you, Mr. Ury, for courageously standing up and speaking the truth. Your job is to represent students and parents. Don’t worry about the teachers union which seeks to control school board members like puppets on a string. Let there be no doubt, teacher unions only represent their own selfish interests and not the interests of children.

Proposition 174 was just the first battle in the war to bring down our Berlin Wall in order to free all children from public school incompetence and union tyranny. Frank Ury was merely a beacon of things to come.
