NEWPORT BEACH--Vessels featuring animated holiday scenes and costumed carolers are showcased in the 1993 Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade, Friday-Dec. 23. The procession is from 6:30-8:30 nightly, beginning and ending at Collins Island. (800) 94-COAST.

MONTEREY--1994 is the centennial commemoration of the death of writer Robert Louis Stevenson. Most of his furniture and memorabilia are in the Monterey State Historic Park’s Stevenson House, where he lived in 1879. In celebration of the centennial, a variety of special events will be sponsored through the year by the California Park Service and the Old Monterey Preservation Society.
