Challenges May Overturn Delco Remy Vote for Union

Workers at a Delco Remy battery factory in Anaheim narrowly voted in a union, but the National Labor Relations Board challenged enough votes that the election might tip back toward the company.

The vote was 147 for and 141 against the International Union of Electronic, Electric, Salaried, Machine and Furniture Workers, according to the NLRB.

An NLRB official observing Thursday’s election challenged 12 voters who were not on a list of employees provided by Delco Remy and used by both the company and the union to lobby workers during the campaign.

Such challenges are not unusual, the NLRB said, because the lists sometimes turn out to be inaccurate.

The union also challenged an additional six voters, saying some were ineligible because they were actually supervisors at the company’s plant on North Magnolia Avenue.

The NLRB said it is investigating the 18 challenged votes to determine the final outcome of the election.
