Philman’s performance in the playoffs last season--she averaged 15 points and 13 rebounds as Edison advanced to the quarterfinals--gave only a hint of her potential. She has shown more the first week of this season. Philman averaged 32 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and 3.5 steals as the Chargers won four games, the final three in the Savanna tournament. Philman, who is a national age-group heptathlon champion, had 31 points and 18 rebounds in a 65-32 victory over Valencia in the title game Saturday. She shot nearly 60% from the field.

* Nicole Erickson, Brea-Olinda, scored 25 points in a 65-38 victory over Gahr in the finals of the Ladycat Classic. She was named MVP.

* Jenny Fricke, El Toro, scored in a 1-0 victory over Irvine in the title game of the Irvine soccer tournament.

* Melanie Pearson, Woodbridge, had 17 points and 18 rebounds in a victory over Huntington Beach in the Woodbridge tournament title game.

* Melody Peterson, Mater Dei, was named MVP of the Rancho Bernardo tournament after scoring 19 in a victory over Poway in the title game.
