HOLLYWOOD PARK : Unbeaten Brocco Heads Field for Futurity

Seven 2-year-olds, including three of the first four finishers in last month’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, have been entered in Sunday’s $500,000 Hollywood Futurity.

Heading the field for the 1 1/16-mile race is undefeated Brocco, who won last month’s $1-million Juvenile by five lengths at Santa Anita for his third victory.

Other Futurity entrants from the Breeders’ Cup race are Blumin Affair, who was second at Santa Anita, and Flying Sensation, who was fourth. This is the field, with jockeys, in post-position order:

Marvin’s Faith, Alex Solis; Valiant Nature, Laffit Pincay; Gracious Ghost, Kent Desormeaux; Peter’s Pride’njoy, Fernando Valenzuela; Blumin Affair, Jerry Bailey; Brocco, Gary Stevens; and Flying Sensation, Eddie Delahoussaye. All will carry 121 pounds.

Horse Racing Notes

On the day that one of his owners will be buried in Kansas, Ibero will run Sunday at Hollywood Park. Frank Whitham, who also raced the champion mare Bayakoa, was killed Wednesday in the crash of his private plane. The family suggests contributions in Whitham’s name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, Box 161, Leoti, Kan. 67861. . . . Laurie Gulas rode 91-1 Dancing Duelist to victory at Hollywood Park. The 2-year-old filly is trained by Derek Meredith, who won the Breeders’ Cup Sprint with Cardmania. The trifecta paid $10,808 and the triple on the fourth, fifth and sixth races paid $137,200.20.
