THOUSAND OAKS : Church Asks to Move to Industrial Park

Share

The Thousand Oaks Planning Commission today will consider a proposal by Westlake Lutheran Church to relocate to an industrial park on the city’s east end.

The church has requested a special permit to move into the Westlake Village Business Park at Townsgate and Lakefield roads. The church is seeking permission for additional cars to park at the site during Sunday worship services and weeknight meetings.

The church will hold one Sunday morning service, averaging about 130 people, according to a city staff report. Groups of 12 to 15 people will meet there weekday evenings.

Three people will staff the church office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Tenants at the business park are open during the week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The city does not usually allow non-commercial enterprises to operate in industrial zones, but has issued special use permits to at least two churches after finding that they would not conflict with surrounding businesses.

The commission will hold a public hearing on the church’s proposal at its regularly scheduled 7:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall.
