GM, Ford, Suzuki Announce Recalls: General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and American Suzuki Motor Corp. announced recalls of nearly 900,000 vehicles to fix engine problems and malfunctions that could pose safety hazards. The recalls include about 504,000 1992 and 1993 model Chevrolet Cavaliers, Corsicas and Berettas and Buick Centurys and Oldsmobile Cutlass Cieras with the base 2.2-liter L4 engine, to repair torn intake manifold gaskets. Also recalled are 22,000 1992 and 1993 Ford heavy-duty trucks and buses that have diesel engines with in-line fuel injection pumps; 3,800 1993 Mercury Capris with automatic transmissions that have risk of engine compartment fires; 319,000 1988 Escorts with 1.9-liter engines that have an emissions problem, and 28,699 Swift cars from American Suzuki to install a reinforcement of the hood latch striker plate to preclude the chance of a hood fly-up.
