Plan to Store Cars on Airport Lot OKd

A portion of Camarillo Airport will soon look like a parking lot under a plan to store as many as 1,500 new Mitsubishi automobiles on 10 acres at the facility.

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a proposal by the Department of Airports and an Oxnard importing company to keep the cars on an undeveloped lot at the airport for three to six months. In exchange, the county will collect an estimated $108,000 in rent from the company, Pacific Vehicle Processors Inc.

The agreement will allow the airport to generate much-needed revenue from vacant land, said Michael Musca, administrative officer of the Airports Department. “It’s a great deal,” Musca said. “We have been hit with the same downturn in revenue as everywhere in the county. This is certainly going to help bring those revenues back up.”
