A 71-year-old woman apparently lost control of her vehicle Thursday morning and fatally struck a 59-year-old pedestrian, police said.

Tatevos Karapetyan of Glendale was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:30 a.m., said Glendale police Sgt. Jim Woody.

The driver of the vehicle, Andrea Sanchez of Burbank, is in stable condition at Glendale Adventist Medical Center suffering from broken ribs, a broken left arm and nose, and bruises to her kidney and face. She is expected to be transferred to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Sanchez’s vehicle was traveling south on Pacific Avenue, north of Broadway, where it crossed over to the northbound lanes and up onto the curb and sidewalk, he said.

The vehicle then hit Karapetyan, pushing him onto a wall, Woody said. Sanchez’s car also smashed into another section of the wall.

Sanchez has not been cited, pending further investigation. Woody said police don’t believe the woman was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
