Single Parents Graduate Academy
Mt. San Antonio College’s Single Parent Academy in Walnut held graduation services for 23 single parents this month.
The academy, which began in 1987, is a nine-week course on educational and career opportunities for low-income and unemployed single parents. The courses are also aimed at helping parents develop self-esteem and parenting skills.
The academy provides help with child care and transportation, and classes for Spanish-speaking parents. Of the 23 graduates this year, 90% have registered for spring classes at the college.
