A drunk driver caused a collision that left four girls and a woman severely burned when their car burst into flames, traffic investigators said Saturday.

Witnesses said Daniel Moreno, 28, of Los Angeles, allegedly was traveling north on Figueroa Street at 88th Place on Christmas Eve when his car slammed into the back of a vehicle carrying two women and four girls between the ages of 2 and 10. Several witnesses helped pull the women and children from the burning car, police said. Moreno was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving.

Two of the victims, sisters 5 and 10 years old, were admitted to Martin Luther King Jr.-Drew Medical Center with burns on more than 50% of their bodies, police said. The 5-year-old was listed in critical condition and the 10-year-old was listed in stable condition. The other girls, ages 9 and 2, were admitted to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with burns and broken bones.
