Republican National Chairman Haley Barbour will be keynote speaker at a fund-raiser for Assemblyman Nao Takasugi (R-Oxnard) next month.
Barbour will talk about GOP strategies in the upcoming year at the Jan 6. dinner, Takasugi said. The $50-per-plate dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. at Howard Johnson’s in Thousand Oaks. Takasugi said he may also use the occasion to formally kick off his reelection campaign.
“It’s still in the talking stages, but it’s a definite possibility,” Takasugi said.
Takasugi, 72, won election to the 37th Assembly District in 1992. His two-year term expires in November, but he said he could face a primary race in June for the district that stretches from Moorpark south to Thousand Oaks and west to Oxnard.
The fund-raiser will help raise money to begin campaigning, Takasugi said. It will also help pay off $50,000 in debt left over from last year’s election, he said. For reservations to the fund-raiser, call 987-5195.
