Four weeks ago, the New York Giants stole a game from Phoenix with a last-second field goal.

On Sunday, the Cardinals played a little pay-back, scoring a 17-6 victory that ended a six-game winning streak for the Giants.

The loss left the Giants (11-4) tied for first place in the NFC East with Dallas. The Giants play the Cowboys next Sunday.

Ron Moore got 110 of his 135 rushing yards and scored twice in the second half to lead the Cardinals.

“We knew by watching the film that we could hurt them on some runs,” said Moore, who had 61 yards in the third quarter, when the Giants went without a first down and the Cardinals came from a 6-0 deficit to a 10-6 lead.

Moore scored on a 19-yard run that he finished with Corey Raymond and two other Giants draped around him as he fell over the goal line.

“I don’t know how many guys were on me,” Moore said. “I just kept looking for that pylon and kept going.”

Several Giants downplayed the loss, noting that they have to beat the Cowboys next week in the Meadowlands regardless.

“We knew we were going to have to play for all of it next week,” said tackle Erik Howard.

But cornerback Lorenzo Lynch, who batted Phil Simms’ pass away from Aaron Pierce to force the Giants to settle for their second field goal, had an answer.

Greg Davis kicked a 20-yard field goal for the first Phoenix points, and Moore’s second touchdown came on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Defense kept the Cardinals in it early, holding the Giants to David Treadwell’s field goals of 19 and 22 yards in the first half.

The Cardinals got a critical break late in the third quarter, when Simms passed to Mark Jackson for 14 yards, but Eric Hill stripped the ball away. Robert Massey recovered on the New York 42, and Centers reception of 25 yards got the ball in position for Moore’s ninth rushing touchdown.

“They had the better team today,” Giants Coach Dan Reeves said. “They came out and whipped us in the second half.”
