LA HABRA : City OKs Strategy for Affordable Housing

Share

La Habra will soon have an affordable housing and relocation plan, thus becoming eligible for federal money.

The City Council earlier this month tentatively approved CHAS, or Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategy, and is expected to give final approval at a meeting next month.

The move was necessary in order to become eligible for federal funding, city officials said. La Habra received funding from the county and participated in a county-administered housing program in the past because the city’s population was under 50,000, but this year, the number jumped to 51,266.

Consequently, the city may administer its own program.

The plan identifies the city’s need for affordable and supportive housing and outlines a strategy to address those needs.

Expanding existing affordable housing programs, providing support services for homeless, elderly, disabled and low-income people and increasing opportunities for home ownership are top priority goals outlined in the strategy.
