Share

Ventura County parents, students and teachers will have the chance at a public hearing next month to voice their opinions about what type of vocational education courses should be offered at high schools, adult education schools and community colleges.

The state Department of Education is holding a series of public meetings around the state on how to spend $114.2 million in vocational education funds.

The meeting location nearest to Ventura County is Norwalk, where a hearing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Jan. 25 in the boardroom of Cerritos Community College, 11110 Alondra Blvd.

Provided by the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Education Act of 1990, the vocational education funds are specifically earmarked for training in five career fields: agriculture; health care; computer science and other technical subjects; homemaking and consumer education; and business education.

A copy of the state’s proposal for spending the funds will be available beginning Jan. 7 at the Camarillo office of the Ventura County Superintendent of Schools.

Ventura County residents who want to make recommendations on the proposal but are unable to make the trip to Norwalk may mail their comments to the California Department of Education, Career-Vocational Education Division, P.O. Box 944272, Sacramento, 94244-2720.
