The Mother of All Lists of Misused Words

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. —
Words and phrases such as politically correct , mother of all . . . and dysfunctional ought to be banished, says a list compiled annually by Lake Superior State University.
Since 1976, the school has accepted nominations for its unofficial “List of Words Banished From the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse, or General Uselessness.”
Among the 29 words and phrases recommended for banishment are dysfunctional (whose family isn’t?) and mother of all . . . (translated from Arabic and worn out).
Politically correct came under fire, on the widespread belief that politicians are so often wrong.
