Region : Water Company Warning
Reports of people posing as water company workers have prompted the San Gabriel Valley Water Co. to alert its 45,000 customers to beware of anyone asking to enter a home to inspect the plumbing.
The alert followed complaints last year about thefts by people who represented themselves as water company employees to enter houses.
The El Monte-based water supplier is notifying its customers that normally a water company employee would not ask to enter a house. This would happen only if a customer had previously contacted the company.
Also company officials said any questions about whether someone is an employee can be directed to the customer service office at (818) 448-6183.
The water company serves El Monte, Rosemead, San Gabriel, Hacienda Heights, La Puente, Baldwin Park, Whittier and Montebello.
