Covina, West Covina : 2 Hospitals Talking Merger
The boards of two San Gabriel Valley hospitals--Queen of the Valley in West Covina and Inter-Community Medical Center in Covina--are discussing the possibility of merging.
On Dec. 20, both boards adopted a non-binding agreement to merge the two hospitals within 120 days. The resolutions pave the way for further negotiations.
Officials from both hospitals said they are considering a merger as a way to remain competitive in the changing health-care environment.
Queen of the Valley had been involved in affiliation discussions with Southern California Healthcare Systems, which is made up of Huntington Memorial Hospital and Methodist Hospital of Southern California.
Those two hospitals have agreed to end discussions to allow Queen of the Valley and Inter-Community hospital to proceed with negotiations.
