YORBA LINDA : County’s El Toro Proposal Opposed

Share

The City Council has voted to support Anaheim in its opposition to the County Board of Supervisors’ proposal for an agency to plan the redevelopment of the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.

But it stopped short of joining with any of the alternative organizations being formed.

The council voted to join Anaheim in protesting the formation of a nine-member panel composed of the five supervisors, three representatives from Irvine and one from Lake Forest.

“If we are going to have a voice in whatever (uses the base is put to), we had better stand up now and object with Anaheim,” said Councilman John M. Gullixson.

Mayor Barbara Kiley, who serves as the city’s representative to the League of California Cities, was authorized by the council to oppose the supervisors’ plan when the league considers its position on the subject next week.

But the council specifically restricted Kiley from committing the city to any such alternative plan as the Orange County Regional Airport Authority, formed by Garden Grove, Los Alamitos and Stanton, which Anaheim is considering joining.
