Ventura City Councilman Jack Tingstrom has taken out papers to run for county assessor in June, elections officials said Wednesday.

Tingstrom, a staunch conservative with extensive ties to Ventura’s business community, will challenge acting assessor Glenn Gray for the position, which pays $102,781 annually.

Tingstrom is the third city official in Ventura County to announce his intentions to run for a county position.

Last week, Thousand Oaks Councilman Frank Schillo took out forms for the supervisorial seat representing county areas stretching from Oak Park to Port Hueneme. Supervisor Maria VanderKolk, who holds the position, has announced that she will not seek reelection.

Several weeks ago, Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton announced that he will run against county Auditor-Controller Thomas O. Mahon for the $110,500-a-year slot.

Deadline to file for the June primary is March 11. Eight county positions, including sheriff and district attorney, will be up for election this year.
