Last year’s hottest car? A Porsche? Mercedes? Lexus? Toyota Camry? Ford Taurus? Believe it or not, the most-stolen car of 1993 was your father’s Oldsmobile. The 1984 Cutlass Supreme placed No. 1. General Motors Corp. products filled every Top 10 slot in the list compiled by CCC Information Services Inc. of Chicago, which does vehicle valuations for the insurance industry.

While there will always be joy riders, it’s not the racing stripes that make the model popular with thieves. The interchangeability of its parts is the “single most overriding reason” the Cutlass is stolen so often, said William Geen, senior vice president of CCC Information Services. “The used-parts business remains the big business.”
