Media Access Workshop Features KCAL Anchor

Veteran news anchor Pat Harvey of KCAL-TV will be the keynote speaker Jan. 22 at a workshop titled “How to Get Your News in the Newspaper and on the Air” presented by United Media Access Panel (UMAP).

Funded by the Ford Foundation, the free session, fifth in a series of nine workshops, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Watts Health Center, 10300 S. Compton Ave.

Topics to be covered include how to prepare a news release, how to find key contacts at radio, TV and newspapers and tips on establishing relationships and working with the media.

Among media panelists participating are Angela Johnson of the L.A. Watts Times, Luis Patino and Arte Shammamian of KCAL-TV, Dean Takahashi of the Los Angeles Times Orange County edition, Victoria Easley of KFWB and Ron Brewington of Sheridan Broadcasting Network.

Ryan Song of the Korean American Grocers Assn. of California and Sandra Serano Sewell of Centro de Ninos will be among community representatives sharing tips and success stories.
