GM to Recall 700 Kansas Workers: General Motors Corp. will recall the employees Jan. 24 at its Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kan., to step up production of the Pontiac Grand Prix, a plant spokesman said. The workers were laid off in March, 1992, when GM eliminated the plant’s second shift because of sluggish sales. Production of the Grand Prix was reduced about 20% from the late 1980s. Last year, sales of the Grand Prix rose 9.3%, to 113,134 vehicles from 103,517 in 1992. The Fairfax plant also will build the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme beginning next fall.
