American Car Sales Rise in Japan: Sales for Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Corp. surged in 1993, evidence that American cars are gaining acceptance among Japanese motorists. After a lengthy slump in the Japanese car market, Chrysler’s sales jumped more than 255% last year, to 5,699 cars. Ford’s sales rose 50.2%, to 5,111 units. “Foreign car makers posted gains in 1993 due to the introduction of new models and right-hand-drive vehicles, as well as price cuts,” said Kunihiko Ono, a vice chief secretary for the Japan Automobile Importers Assn.
