Board Delays Final Action on Clinic Site

Share

Because of a breakdown in negotiations, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday delayed a final decision on whether to purchase a building owned by Texaco to house the west Ventura health clinic.

County Public Works Director Arthur Goulet said the county and Texaco have not yet reached agreement over who will pay to remove asbestos ceiling tiles and clean up soil contamination from underground fuel tanks.

The board postponed a public hearing on the matter until next Tuesday.

“We are trying to work out a compromise that might be suitable to Texaco,” said Ray Ruiz, the county’s manager of real estate services. “Hopefully within the next week we can reach some sort of agreement on that.”

The Board of Supervisors tentatively agreed two weeks ago to purchase the building at 133 W. Santa Clara St. for $1.3 million--pending an agreement with Texaco.

The building would serve as the new location for the West Ventura Family Care Clinic, which is now operating in cramped quarters at 110 N. Olive St., Ventura.
